President's Message

Happy New Year as we welcome in 2004. In April the Margaret Pratt Foundation will celebrate its 4th birthday and to date has given more than $120,000 to the Alfred Hospital's Heart and Lung Research Units.

The Foundation's mission is to achieve a healthier outcome for transplant recipients and we focus on funding research projects that do just that.

The Board of Management acknowledges that the fundraising activities depend entirely on the Event and Young Progressive Committees, all of whom volunteer their time and talent.

2003 saw our most rewarding year yet, allowing us to make a significant contribution to the Lung Transplant research effort. It was a wonderful year and I express my gratitude to all our wonderful supporters who attended our events and for the generosity of individuals and organizations who continue to provide us with financial support to help us meet our goals. In this issue we give you an update on some of the research projects the Foundation has funded.

This year promises to be an exciting and challenging one for the Foundation as we continue to fulfill our mission.

We are delighted to be associated with W D Rose and Joseph Allison Funerals who as part of their community commitment will be supporting the Margaret Pratt Foundation. They have organized a Gala Event to be held on Saturday 22 May at the Hotel Sofitel, Melbourne.

We bid a sad farewell to Lesley Gillespie, Event Committee Chairperson, who will be in Canada with her family throughout 2004. Lesley has been a very valuable team member and we wish her well with her pursuits. We welcome to the Chair Ann Cohn who has the onerous task of keeping 12 women on track during our meetings!

I wish you peace and good health throughout 2004 and look forward to seeing you at the Gala Event in May.
